Art with a Story: Exploring Emirati History & Identity
Al Saleh’s work delves deep beneath the surface—both figuratively and literally—exploring untold narratives and forgotten histories. She is known for incorporating bones and skulls into her compositions, using them as storytelling devices rather than symbols of death. Inspired by historic representational art, such as the Calaveras prints of Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada, her work redefines skeletal imagery by embedding it with cultural and historical narratives from Emirati life.
Her Three Phase Signal series is one of her most groundbreaking projects, exploring human emotions and identity through electrical engineering concepts. In this series, she creatively merges art and science, using the three-phase electrical signal system as a metaphor for the different stages of human thought, emotion, and energy. Through paintings, sculptures, and installations, she visualizes how past experiences, present realities, and future possibilities interact—just like synchronized electrical phases—to shape a person’s identity. The series challenges viewers to consider the invisible forces that influence human perception and emotion, making an intellectual connection between engineering principles and psychological depth.
Education & Legacy: Inspiring Future Generations
Maisoon Al Saleh’s artistic contributions extend beyond galleries—her work has been integrated into university and school curricula across multiple countries, cementing her influence on the next generation of artists and historians. Through her immersive installations, digital art, and workshops, she continues to challenge perspectives, bridging Emirati heritage with contemporary expression.
By blending tradition with modern storytelling, Al Saleh’s work invites audiences to engage in a dialogue about culture, history, and how personal narratives shape collective memory.
